I'm already receiving suggestions for iconic tracks to be included on a "list". Some which we already have limited access to and maintain.... I have committed to pass these through as they come in. Here is the first batch
.....
"Slippery Rock Trail-Watagans
Yalwal in general but having Wombat Flat Road North reopened.
Bicentennial trail from the Baal Bone Gap from the pumping station.
There are plenty iconic tracks in the Wollimi National Park."
cheers
Roger

Hi Roger,
I might have the bull by the horns here, but I think the iconic trail/track needs to link towns on the great dividing range. To get anyone to accept the idea (outside of our association) its more about what we give/offer to towns not what we get from the areas, if that make senses.

Thanks Lee, Yes that's the message which I am trying to get out. It doesn't stop those who are driven by their "old favourites" to try and get them "on the list" in any event.
The economic benefit message to affected towns is the key here.
cheers
Roger

Hi Roger, Lee is correct, we need towns first, then we look for ways to link them, to be honest the tracks are easy, getting the towns is going to be the hard part. What we need to do is put a case forward that people from Victoria drive straight to Queensland and the same the other way. We need to give them something to brake the trip up and spend some money in NSW.
Have fun

We are researching a list of target towns to be assessed for stopovers along the ranges in conjunction with the Timber Industry Association and I should have a list of potential targets later this week.
The towns serve a vital purpose in our strategy which is very simple. We want to sell the idea to the Government about how we can spend our recreational and tourism dollars in depressed towns and attract interstate tourism as well. Only with a win like this for the Government, will we be able to convince them to open any closed tracks.
Until we decide on our targets we should not be expending our energy on an ad hoc approach to getting information. I know that many of us are keen to get out there and help. There will be some good opportunities for club trips to collect the needed information.
But let's do it when we have the basic targets we need to succeed. Dom has put up a copy of my survey form on the website. It is not final, but at this stage allows readers to see what we will be needing. It also needs me to supply a briefing note to go with it, to help your trip leaders. The next step is to run the target towns for approval by the Exec. committee. I will supply a report to achieve this for the April Committee meeting. Once this gets approved, I will issue the trip leader guidelines with the list of strategic towns for issue to all clubs for their help.
Thank you for your interest,
Rob Kelly
